Lung Function Test

As part of this study, participants will receive a lung function test and blood test. During this lung function test, participants breathe in and out as much air to a spirometer machine. This test helps detect breathing problems such as asthma, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and emphysema.

Blood Draw & Smoking Cessation Counselling

Each participant gets to be part of the development of a reliable and accurate blood test for early detection of lung cancer. Our goal is to improve the diagnosis of cancer via blood test along with clinical imaging before resorting to more invasive and risky procedures.

Current smokers will receive free smoking cessation counselling through the QuitNow program.

Low-Dose Chest CT Scan

Participants who are at high risk for lung cancer will also be offered a low-radiation CT scan to search the lungs for the signs of lung cancer, as well as other lung diseases including emphysema/COPD. Participants will also receive information on their heart health as part of the CT scan.

The BC Lung Health Check offers comprehensive treatment for those diagnosed with lung cancer and other lung conditions through the study by their world-class team of physicians.
